KEY Curation Notes

A different character than the larger Eagles Nest lodges. Single-level cottage tucked at the back of Fish Camp — quieter, more private, and notably more intimate than the multi-level homes elsewhere in the community. Well-suited for a smaller family or two couples who don't need a rec room or game floor.
Exclusive catch-and-release fishing access on the Elk River headwaters. Fish Camp guests have private access to the trophy trout stretch of the Elk River just across the highway — one of the most coveted fishing waterways on the East Coast. A NC fishing license is required; this access isn't available to most Eagles Nest rentals.
The great room is the social center. Open-concept kitchen and living area anchored by a live-edge wood island that seats six, a gas log fireplace, and sliding doors to the covered deck with a dining table for six. The stone path off the deck leads down to a fire pit by the stream.
Two distinct sleeping configurations. Queen suite with a private ensuite bath and TV; a separate bunk room with two sets of twin-over-twin bunks and its own bath — a natural split for adults and kids.
No hot tub. The fire pit by the stream and the covered deck are the primary outdoor spaces. Worth knowing if a hot tub is a priority, as most larger Eagles Nest rentals include one.
Full Eagles Nest amenities access included. Great Camp, Epic Chophouse, amphitheater, mini-golf, hiking trails, sports courts, and winery day passes ($25/person) are all accessible during your stay.
Starter supplies are minimal. Stock up in Banner Elk — three miles away — before settling in. KEY.co can arrange grocery delivery to the property ahead of your arrival.

Getting to the property

The main roads are plowed in winter, but 4WD or AWD vehicles are required from November to March, and chains may also be necessary to access all properties in winter months.

My family enjoyed living at the Doe Run Cottage during our stay in Banner Elk. The cottage’s serene environment provided early morning coffee with the deer and camp fire star gazing at night. Watching the alluring twinkle of fireflies added to the whimsical atmosphere Doe Run Cottage already provided. The cottage was clean and cozy providing everything you could want or need. We enjoyed many of the restaurants in town. The cottage was close to an abundance of hiking trails, tourist attractions, waterfalls, and tubing. The added bonus of access to all the amenities of the Lodges at Eagles Nest made our days filled with fun and spectacular views. My family could see the toll that Hurricane Helene took in the area especially, the river bank but, it could not take away from the extraordinary beauty of the area truly showing that North Carolina is unmatched in its resiliency and stunning nature. The customer service and communication was outstanding. We highly recommend Doe Run Cottage.

Things you need to know

Fish Camp guests enjoy exclusive fishing access across the highway on the private, pristine headwaters of the Elk River for catch & release fishing of trophy trout (NC fishing license required).

Eagles Nest is an up-and-coming community, with construction currently going on in several of its neighborhoods. Construction noises may be heard from 7am-7pm Monday-Saturday.

The North Pavilion is host to several summer parties, including a Fourth of July celebration and concerts, which guests are more than welcome to attend; however, in the event there is a wedding or other private party, guests are not allowed in or near the Sportsmans Lodge.

All stays at Eagles Nest homes have an additional amenity fee in order to maintain the luxurious facilities and features in the development. For this home, it is $35 per night (max $175).

Guests are responsible for supplying their own recreational equipment (basketballs, soccer balls, tennis equipment etc.)

The summer concerts are open to all guests; however, there may be an admission fee for each person and cash bar for food and drinks.

All linens and towels provided for your stay.

Please note that all Eagles Nest homes have internet, but some areas of travel may not have cell reception.

The property is set up for light housekeeping, including linens and towels. We provide a STARTER SET of toilet tissue, paper towels, bath toiletries, dish soap, and trash bags. This is enough for one or two nights, but if you are staying for an extended length of time, you should plan to bring some supplies from home or plan to purchase these items at a grocery store when you arrive.

We provide one towel and washcloth per person that each respective house accommodates, plus a few extra towels if there is a hot tub. The beds are made up with clean linens (except bunks, sleepers, and futons, but linens are provided on site). If you routinely use two towels after bathing, you may need to bring some of your own.

This home comes equipped with a basic set of cookware, sufficient plates & silverware for the occupancy of the home, and basic serving and baking dishes. Most homes do not have unusual items such as crockpots or blenders, so if you’re planning a dish that requires an unusual item, it is best to bring that from your home.

This home is not stocked with cooking oils or spices, hairdryers, condiments, coffee, coffee filters, or food storage items, including plastic wrap or foil.

Guests & Occupancy

  • Age requirements: Primary guest must be at least 25 years old and must remain on-site for the full stay.
  • Maximum occupancy: Occupancy limits (including children) must not be exceeded at any time.
  • Guest accountability: The booking guest is responsible for all occupants, compliance with rules, and any damages beyond normal wear and tear.
  • Unauthorized guests: $25 per person per day for exceeding occupancy; may result in immediate removal.
  • Approved use of property: Use is limited to vacation purposes unless prior written approval is obtained. Subletting or assignment is not permitted without written approval.

Events & Noise

  • Events & gatherings: Not permitted without prior written approval; unauthorized events may result in fines, immediate removal without refund, and charges for damages/cleaning.
  • Noise restrictions: Must comply with local noise regulations at all times.

Prohibited Activities

  • Pets: Allowed only in designated homes with prior approval and a non-refundable pet fee. Unauthorized pets: $200 fee + $500 cleaning fee; may require removal or termination without refund. Pets must meet all listing restrictions and be pre-treated for pests.
  • Smoking/vaping: Strictly prohibited indoors; $300 smoke remediation fee.
  • Illegal activities: Any violation of laws or regulations is prohibited and may result in termination of stay.
  • Fireworks & firearms: Strictly prohibited at all times.
  • Fire/fireplace misuse: No burning wood in gas fireplaces. No roasting food in fireplaces. Unauthorized outdoor fires prohibited (fees apply).
  • EV charging: Prohibited unless specifically approved; $500 fine.

Equipment & Amenities

  • Internet/TV/phone: No refunds for outages or service issues. Pay-per-view is prohibited; charges will be billed if used. Long-distance calls must not be billed to the home.
  • Appliances & equipment: No refunds for malfunctions (TV, hot tub, appliances, etc.).
  • Equipment reporting: Issues must be reported promptly; repairs will be attempted but are not guaranteed.
  • Parking rules: Vehicle limits apply; some areas restrict motorcycles, RVs, or trailers. No roadside parking if prohibited.
  • Restricted areas: Locked closets/areas are off-limits.
  • Firewood: Available for purchase ($25/day) with 7-day advance notice.

Checkout & Care

  • Check-in: Begins at 4:00 PM (may vary up to 5:00 PM depending on home/season). No early check-in guarantees or compensation.
  • Checkout: By 10:00 AM.
  • Key return: $25 fee for lost keys.
  • Cleaning expectations: Leave the property in reasonable condition. Bag and dispose of trash, start dishwasher, and place used towels as instructed.
