KEY Curation Notes

Perched at the top of Eagles Nest with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, The Flying Eagle is oriented around panoramic views of the Elk River Valley extending toward Tennessee. The architecture has been featured on the cover of Log Cabin Homes — the natural bedrock wall in the entertainment level is the centerpiece of the lower floor.
Four bedrooms across three levels sleep up to twelve. The upper-level king suite has a private gas fireplace, copper soaking tub, open shower, and a sitting room with deck access. The lower level holds a two-queen ensuite, a second king bedroom, and a fourth room with a full-over-full bunk. An en-suite sauna is also on the lower level. The main level has a half bath and an entertainment space with a pool table.
The 9-person hot tub is under the covered deck alongside an al fresco dining table. A private fire pit is set into the rhododendrons along a path from the deck. The deck itself has large wooden glider chairs overlooking the valley.
Two watch-outs: The outdoor fireplace is not operational — do not use it. The decorative waterfall runs on a timer and is seasonal, available end of May through October only.
The Eagles Nest community amenity fee is billed separately at $35 per night, capped at $175. Included access covers hiking and biking trails, ATV trails (on-site rentals through Off Road Adventures — personal machines not permitted at the gate), pickleball, tennis, basketball, disc golf, ropes course, mini-golf, playground, and the summer concert amphitheater (admission not included). Eagles Nest Winery day passes are $25 per person.
4WD or AWD is required November through March, and chains may be necessary. No refunds for guests arriving without a compliant vehicle.
Active construction is ongoing in several Eagles Nest neighborhoods. Noise is possible Monday through Saturday, 7am–7pm.
Cell reception is limited on some roads within the community; the home has internet.
Starter supplies cover roughly one night — KEY.co can arrange grocery delivery before your arrival.

Jacob

The Flying Eagle is — hands down — one of the finest properties you'll find anywhere in the North Carolina mountains, not just Eagles Nest. Few homes take your breath away upon entry like the Flying Eagle. A full panoramic vista of the beautiful mountains greets you immediately upon opening the front door. It's almost embarrassing how much time I spent sitting in a chair, just soaking in the view! The house doesn't end with the view; it's perfectly set up for multiple families with large bedrooms, a game room, and a couple outdoor entertaining areas. The kitchen is spacious and better equipped than most of the other mountain properties I've rented. We also loved the location, close to both Great Camp and the North Pavilion.

Things you need to know

Outdoor waterfall is seasonal (end of May through October).

The North Pavilion is host to several summer parties, including a Fourth of July celebration and concerts, which guests are more than welcome to attend; however, in the event there is a wedding or other private party, guests are not allowed in or near the Sportsmans Lodge.

All stays at Eagles Nest homes have an additional amenity fee in order to maintain the luxurious facilities and features in the development.

Eagles Nest is an up-and-coming community, with construction currently going on in several of its neighborhoods. Construction noises may be heard from 7am-7pm Monday-Saturday.

Guests are responsible for supplying their own recreational equipment (basketballs, soccer balls, tennis equipment, etc.)

The summer concerts are open to all guests; however, there is an admission fee for each person and a cash bar for food and drinks.

All linens and towels are provided for your stay.

Firewood for the outdoor fire pit may be added at the time of booking or by reaching out to us more than a week in advance. You receive two wrapped bundles and a firestarter for $25/night. Please note that all Eagles Nest homes have internet, but some areas of travel may not have cell reception

There is one exterior security camera, a Ring doorbell cam mounted by the front entry door.

Outdoor fireplace is not operational.

The property is set up for light housekeeping, including linens and towels. We provide a STARTER SET of toilet tissue, paper towels, bath toiletries, dish soap, and trash bags. This is enough for one or two nights, but if you are staying for an extended length of time, you should plan to bring some supplies from home or plan to purchase these items at a grocery store when you arrive.

We provide one towel and washcloth per person that each respective house accommodates, plus a few extra towels if there is a hot tub. The beds are made up with clean linens (except bunks, sleepers, and futons, but linens are provided on site). If you routinely use two towels after bathing, you may need to bring some of your own.

This home comes equipped with a basic set of cookware, sufficient plates & silverware for the occupancy of the home, and basic serving and baking dishes. Most homes do not have unusual items such as crockpots or blenders, so if you’re planning a dish that requires an unusual item, it is best to bring that from your home.

This home is not stocked with cooking oils or spices, hairdryers, condiments, coffee, coffee filters, or food storage items, including plastic wrap or foil.
