Neighborhood: Kauna'oa at Mauna Kea - It is situated on a private one-acre lot. With only 44 homes in the exclusive Kauna’oa gated community, it is always uncrowded. Ideally situated in the heart of Mauna Kea Resort near the ocean, between the Big Island’s best two beaches, it is an easy ten-minute walk to either Mauna Kea Beach or Hapuna Beach.  Hapuna Beach was recently voted the #1 Beach in the USA while many consider Mauna Kea Beach as one of the best beaches in the world.  Each beach has a world-class hotel with amenities including seven restaurants, oceanfront tennis & pickleball courts and two golf courses. - Venturing beyond the Mauna Kea resort, the Big Island is full of adventures and wonderful discoveries.  Take a day trip to Volcano National Park, explore ancient lava tubes, visit wonderful galleries and small historic towns - Waimea, Hawi to name a few. - For water enthusiasts who prefer tours, snorkeling and scuba diving adventures are available a short distance away.  Ask our Guest Ambassadors for additional information. - There are three wonderful shopping areas in the resorts: Shops at Mauna Lani, King Shops and Queens Shops. They include groceries, restaurants, and retail stores. They are within walking or biking distance from most of our vacation homes. - The resorts were designed to avoid overcrowding the beaches with condo towers and other developments. The gated communities are all set back from the beaches a bit to make sure the beach experience is amazing. From many of the homes you can walk to a beach in 15 minutes or bike ride. - The Kilauea volcano is 90 miles away behind two 13,000-foot mountains and has been very quiet for the last year. Even during the eruption event in 2018 it did not affect our side of the Island. The National Park is open and it is fascinating to explore, go for a hike or take an aerial tour. It is part of what makes the Big Island unique and should not be missed. - The Kona (KOA) airport is the closest to the resorts. It is a 25-35 min drive to the vacation rentals. It is an international airport with direct flights from LA, SF, San Diego, Sacramento, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, San Jose, Oakland, Anchorage, Vancouver and Tokyo. There are also direct flights to Oahu, Kauai, and Maui.

Getting to the property

We do recommend renting a car while on the Big Island. While you can stay in the resort area with beaches, restaurants, groceries and shops there is so much to explore that renting a vehicle is highly recommended.

The Hawaiian Elegance property exceeded my family and my expectations in every manner. The check in process was smooth and easy. The directions provided ahead of check in were perfect.This property is amazing in many ways from large items like the pool/spa down to very minor details like bathroom appointments. The property is clean and luxurious in every manner.My guests were overwhelmed with the property landscaping, home furnishings, kitchen furnishings and beach equipment. The home was extremely comfortable and proved the be the perfect setting for my family to celebrate my wife's birthday.If I ever return to the big island of Hawaii, I will return to this property.

Directly across the street from Hawaiian Elegance is “The Club” featuring a private par-3 Weiskopf design practice course and other amenities.  Guests of Hawaiian Elegance are welcome to use the practice course at no extra charge and no reservation is required from dawn to dusk. In addition, guests may use the Club’s pool, spa and fitness facility from 10 am-2 pm each day.

Optional registration (additional costs apply) for the Mauna Kea Club offers exclusive use of resort towels and chairs and beach amenities, charging privileges at each hotel’s restaurants and shops, use of the hotel's pools, fitness centers, and discounts on golf and tennis at each of the Mauna Kea and Hapuna courses.

For families with little ones, we have all of the gear to make your travels a breeze, pack’n’play, high chair, swim vests, baby monitor and more make the little one feel just at home.  Ask about full-size cribs (subject to availability).

Laundry detergent, oxyclean, dryer sheets, dishwasher detergent, jet dry, cling wrap, foil, zip lock bags, assortment of spices, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, popcorn, starter bag of pure Kona Mountain coffee (the good stuff), hand soap, Dove soap bar, high end Float shampoo, shower gel and conditioner, two extra rolls of toilet paper per bathroom, and two paper towel rolls are provided. We have a clean fridge policy so upon check-in the fridge does not have any condiments.

  • Homes are located within HOA-governed communities. Guests are responsible for complying with community-specific association rules as outlined in the Home Use Agreement.
